Settled, Online Estate Agent

You’re probably here for the £50 discount code. If so, go ahead, grab and run with it. See if I care. Enjoy.

But if you’re after a little more quality time together, and some more information on settled.co.uk, you should get cosy and stick around.

I’m not going to dive too deeply into the whole “what is an online estate agent” issue, because I’ve beat that stick to death, and the odds are you already know what they are. Essentially, they allow home owners to sell their property privately by advertising on the likes of Rightmove & Zoopla. Online agents are a significantly cheaper alternative to a traditional high-street agent, which is obviously their greatest appeal. According to Settled, their customers save a whopping £5,000 on average. With numbers like that getting thrown around, it should come as no surprise to why they’re the latest rage in the world of selling property.

If you’re looking for a more detailed explanation, you may want to jump over to my online estate agent guide. It’s all in there.

Is Settled.co.uk as good as the other big online agents?

Settled.co.uk are yet another online estate agent to join the ranks, among Purplebricks, YOPA and emoov (all of which you’ve probably heard of, and probably considered along with Settled.co.uk).

It’s true, Settled doesn’t have a strong brand like the others mentioned (not yet anyways), but rest assured, they do pretty much the same thing! The reality is, as long as you’re comfortable with taking your own viewings, then most online estates will be fit for your purpose.

But Settled is an online agent that has particularly perked your interest because you’ve probably noticed that they’re significantly cheaper than the brands you’re seeing on TV Commercials or on the side of Double-decker busses. Let’s take a look at how they compare by price…

Online Estate AgentPrice
Settled£499 (£449 with discount code)
emoov£785
PurpleBricks£849
YOPA£839

Please note, I try my best to keep the information of each agent up-to-date, but you should read the T&C’s from the agents’ website for the most up-to-date information.

Yup, with such a big gap in price (almost half of what PurpleBricks & YOPA are asking for), it’s pretty difficult to ignore the underdog. However, when a product that allegedly ‘does the same thing’ is so much cheaper, it’s difficult to ignore human nature. Are the wheels going to fall off halfway through the journey? Is it made from under-cooked horse meat? Why is to so much cheaper? WHY?

What’s my opinion? All the agents listed in the table above offer very similar services; they all provide a local in-person valuation, professional photos and floorplans, sale sign, market your property on Rightmove & Zoopla (the only two property portals you only need to be concerned with), and all provide personal support until completion. Beyond that, the differences are arguably trivial.

So why are the others more expensive? I have a few theories, but I think it’s mostly down to marketing expenses. The others spend so much on marketing that their running costs must be insane. Moreover, the others’ provide “free, no obligations” home valuations. That means half of the vendors that opt for a free valuation may not even using their service, meaning the agent loses time/money. Settled, on the other hand, don’t offer “free, no obligation” valuations, they only provide an in-person valuation if you buy their service.

What do you think?

Should you worry about using them? If the comparatively ‘low’ price is concerning you, I personally wouldn’t worry about it, because they’re ‘all the same’. If you’re comfortable with the idea of using an online estate agent, Settled.co.uk is as good of a choice as any, in my opinion… so shove this £50 discount code (PIP17) down your throat and get started!

Not convinced? If you’re in search for further reassurance, you may want to peruse through their customer reviews on TrustPilot. On the day that I’m writing this, they have a 9.4 out of 10 rating, which is “Excellent” For a dose of reality, there’s also a few negative reviews for you to get your claws into, which is always reassuring. I’d be worried if there weren’t any.

So, have you used Settled.co.uk? If so, how was your experience? For everyone else, are you going to use them, or at least considering them as a viable option?

Goodluck all! xoxo
