Sarah Beeny’s Property Ladder Is Awesome

09 Jan 2007

Does anyone else watch this show? Most of the property shows on these days are boring and generic; consequently it’s difficult to extract any useful information from them. But I’ve always had a soft spot for Property Ladder. Why? Mainly because of the entertainment value it provides.

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some people can be. One thing is for sure, the producers of the show know exactly what they’re doing when they accept brain-dead, ignorant applicants. Have you ever seen an episode when wannabe developers actually listen to Sarah Beeny’s advice? Nah, me neither. But what’s fun about watching smart people make money? There’s something much more morbidly intriguing about watching stupid people scratching their asses on TV. Hell, the nation couldn’t get enough of Jade Goody when she was on Big Brother. Point proved.

Sarah Beeny seems like a bright crayon, and definitely knows a lot about the industry. That’s why I regularly find myself ripping the flesh off my face with my blunt nails when people that have been in the development industry all of 5mins ignore her advice. She knows the industry inside and out, consequently makes a lot of sense with her advice (at least to me), so it’s kind of irritating watching “fresh meat” defy her advice.

Anyways, any thoughts on the show are welcome.

Like Kevib McLoud, not only is Beeney extremely knowledgeble she is also quite charismatic. Yes it is annoying when the 'know it alls' do not take her advice but it does make addictive TV viewing. 1

Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, the concept of the show is totally excellent, as is Sarah Beeny. Have you seen anyone come out losing money, though?

It's just annoying that everytime a episode finishes I'm hyped up to invest.....but then I get a reality check when looking at my bank balance lol :)

To be honest, i'm not a real fan of Location, location, location, and I've not seen Selling Houses as of yet. I'll keep my eyes pealed for it. 2

I am a big fan also of the show. I have watched it since it first aired and have taped some of them for future reference, as I am on my first development now.

I have seen only a couple of episodes where people have lost money. Most people only make the big amount because the market has risen, not because they have been clever in any way lol.

The episode which I saw when they lost money was when two sisters in their early 20's bought a massive house and spent far too much doing it up. One of the sisters didnt seem to realise that if you spend £2,000 on tiles for the downstairs toilet, you arnt necessarily going to recoup it back on the sale price.

Love the site by the way!

Thanks a lot :)

Did you buy a rundown property, and are now in the process of rebuilding it? I'm tempted to go down that route, but finding property that needs development is more rare than 'in tact' property these days. Everyone is after the quick buck.

haha, I know what you mean, I've seen a few episodes where people have only gained equity due to the property market rising. The torturous 6 months of slaving away, and blood shed was a total waste of time. LOVELY!

I've seen it happen so many times, where people have completely disregarded Sarah's advice, consequently end up decorating the property based on their own expensive taste; that's when profits get eaten up. But I haven't seen a loss yet, because as you said, the rise in the property market compensates for incompetence, sadly. I want to see more people lose their money when they ignore expert advice.

Good luck with your development project, and let me know how it goes.

Kind regards :) 4
