1. If any of you bothered doing your research you'd find out that in fact they DO give massive sums of money to charity each year.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been known for his vast charitable donations. On May 19, 2007, he announced plans to give $10bn USD to set up the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, an educational foundation in the Middle East, one of the largest charitable donations in history.

After witnessing India win only one medal, bronze, in the 2000 Summer Olympics, and one medal, silver, at the 2004 Summer Olympics, Mittal decided to set up Mittal Champions Trust with US$9 million to support 10 Indian athletes with world-beating potential. In 2008 Mittal awarded Abhinav Bindra with Rs. 1.5 Crore, for getting India its first individual Olympic gold medal in shooting.
For Comic Relief 2007, he matched the money raised (~£1 million) on the celebrity special BBC programme, The Apprentice.

2. These people don't just sit around all day and money just comes to them, they obviously work hard and have been doing throughout their lives. People think that just because you're born into money you'll stay in money, but in fact these people work not only with huge amounts but with huge risk - it's much easier to lose money than to make money. So obviously they are working hard, and they should be allowed to enjoy their rewards how they want as long as it doesn't affect anyone else.

3. Why not buy a big house? When you're that rich and well known, it isn't possible to just pop out to the cinema or anything, so obviously these people are looking for a refuge not just a home.

4. Also this isn't just a home - it's an investment opportunity. If/when they decide to sell, with such unique properties they will be most likely looking at big profits, adding to their portfolios.

5. Who's to say they wouldn't be looking at this as the best inheritance they could leave for their children?

End of the day, it's their money, they made it and worked for it, they can enjoy it any way they wish to. So stop whining. Or go out and make a few billion first - and then whine. (Y)

Yes, Jason you are absolutely right. That was the point I was trying to make. Nobody needs or could benefit from such a huge house. It is all the perception of the person who is experiencing the object, but, but, it is not the ownership that makes any difference. I could stay at the Burj al Arab hotel in Dubai and still enjoy the same thing for a night or two, if I wanted to pay the money, and have the same experience, but after a while it would become commonplace and just taken for granted...

I dont think the debate here should be about where Mr Maktoom spends his money! He obviously gives alot to charities and its the thought that counts and i beleive it is ok for a man to live a luxurious life. I dont think anybody here should hate him. What i do know, is that NOBODY Needs to live in such a big house!!! I think its a little pathetic. But its not us to judge what floats other peoples boats. This house (or mansion) is gorgeous but I would Never want to live in a something that big. I dont think it would be very comfortable and homey for ME. In fact, i wouldnt even want to have that kinda money. God loves all, dont judge!!!!!
