DSS Tenants
DSS Tenants are notoriously seen as “Landlord cancer”. While I don’t necessarily agree that all DSS Tenants are bad news, I can understand why some Landlords refuse to deal with them.
I’ve had good and bad experiences with DSS tenants. But then again, I’ve had good and bad experiences with regular tenants as well.
This section goes into detail about DSS Tenants, including my own experiences.

Tips For DSS Tenants That Can’t Find A Property To Rent
4 Comments Comments / Article written on 08 Mar 2010, and filed in the DSS Tenants section
I’m usually writing about DSS tenants in bad light, but that’s because I’ve had shitty experiences with them. However, I know there are a lot of genuinely decent DSS tenants out there struggling to find landlords and letting agents that will accept them because of the damage the piss-taking DSS tenants have inflicted.
It would genuinely [...]
Common Misconception: Rent Is Guaranteed With DSS Tenants
8 Comments Comments / Article written on 29 Dec 2009, and filed in the DSS Tenants section
I’ve heard a lot of people claiming that rent is guaranteed when Housing Benefit (HB) pay rent directly to the landlord on behalf of DSS tenants. It was actually the other day that someone on my blog made that statement, and it’s definitely a popular claim I’ve heard many times. For the record, the lady [...]
The Council Are So Shit To Landlords With Problem DSS Tenants (Part 2)
12 Comments Comments / Article written on 13 Oct 2009, and filed in the DSS Tenants section
I say “part 2″ because I’ve previously thrown my toys out of the pram over this shitty little issue, DSS Tenants And The Shitty Council. I’m writing about it again for 2 reasons. Firstly, the issue still frustrates the fuck out of me, and secondly, I’ve recently been reminded of how incompetent and lackadaisical the [...]
Reasons Why Landlords Shouldn’t Accept DSS Tenants
78 Comments Comments / Article written on 09 Aug 2009, and filed in the DSS Tenants section
Before anyone gets firmly on my tits about this, let me just clarify, this is a follow on article from The Positives Of DSS Tenants. So please, no angry hippies or DSS tenants start protesting, this is just a simple flip of the coin.
But I must confess, this list is longer than the pro-DSS [...]
I Received An Email Of Complaint From A DSS Tenant
16 Comments Comments / Article written on 24 Apr 2009, and filed in the DSS Tenants section
Rightly or wrongly so, I found this email rather quite amusing. I always welcome constructive criticism because it usually makes a good read, but most importantly, it gives me a little something different to blog about, which is cool.
Ok, so, I was advertising a vacant property available for rent on Gumtree. Gumtree worked a charm- [...]

What’s the difference between Housing Benefit (HB) and Local Housing Allowance (LHA)?
Basically, a tenant receiving financial aid from the council is either on Housing Benefits (HB) or Local Housing Allowance (LHA). The difference can be somewhat crucial for a landlord.
Local Housing Allowance (LHA)
LHA was introduced in April, 2007. It’s is a new way of calculating [...]
The Positives Of DSS Tenants
23 Comments Comments / Article written on 16 Sep 2008, and filed in the DSS Tenants section
I know I’ve been a pretentious little shitbag about DSS tenants lately, but I swear, I’m also very well aware of the blooming fruit DSS tenants can bring to the yard. Yeah, sure, the Government has stratgeically put together a shitty little paper mache structure that topples over at every passing breeze. And sure, DSS [...]
Tips For Taking On DSS Tenants
49 Comments Comments / Article written on 08 Sep 2008, and filed in the DSS Tenants section
In the past I’ve made it completely transparent that I don’t like taking on DSS tenants. Obviously i’m not the only one either, because the amount of “DSS NOT ACCEPTED” disclaimers seem to be increasing by the day. And with landlords being spoiled for choice with the huge demand for rental properties, DSS tenants will [...]
DSS Tenants And The Shitty Council
16 Comments Comments / Article written on 28 Nov 2007, and filed in the DSS Tenants section
I’ve decided it’s not worth getting involved with DSS tenants because of the incompetence of the local council (or at least my local council). They are so stupid and unwilling to help landlords that they make me want to rip my beautiful eyes out with a blunt spoon every time I have to deal [...]
The Basic Guide To DSS Tenants
23 Comments Comments / Article written on 28 May 2007, and filed in the DSS Tenants section
With so many properties available to rent these days, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for landlords to rent out property, so landlords are having to become flexible to who they rent their property out to.
A lot of landlords, especially when looking for tenancy through an agent, get offered to house a DSS tenant. There’s a lot [...]
