How Do You Get An Estate Agent To Stop Calling You?

Category: Comic Sketches

Does anyone know the answer? I don’t. There used to be a time when saying, “I’m not interested” worked.

With the property market cooling down I see evident signs of estate agents starting to panic as their commission based salaries are starting to take big hits. They’ve had an easy ride for long enough; unfortunately Disney land is about to close.

It’s only during times like these it’s easy to spot the difference between a good and bad agent. At one point the market was so vibrant that any old’ fool in a cheap suit could sell property because the demand was there. Now it’s getting to the point where skill and talent is what is going to make those sales. I guess that means 98% of estate agents should be looking for a career change.

During these desperate times I’ve been getting a barrage of phone calls from various estate agents that are trying to push properties onto me. I get the impression they can’t sell for neither love nor money at the moment, so they’re cold-calling in an act of desperation. They really must be desperate to call everyone in their books to sell property. I mean, how many people have that much money lying around? It’s not like they’re trying to sell tins of baked beans. The success rate from cold-calling must be 1 /200, if they’re lucky.

I’m in about 3 or 4 local estate agents books, purely because I used them when I previously purchased property. They’ve all been harassing me on a daily basis. One agent even called me every day for over 3 weeks. I ignored every single one of his calls because I didn’t have the patience to get tangled into a conversation with him. You have to be in some kind of delusional trance to try and call someone on a daily basis for 3 weeks just to tell them about the latest properties on the market. Harassing someone isn’t good practice; it’s just an act of desperation and highlights the inability of an agent.

I made it clear to all of them that they shouldn’t call me unless they find me a property that is at least 15% under market value. Of course they didn’t pay any attention to my humble request; they were persistent on calling with offers of alternative properties at market value, if not above. Idiots.

Here’s two not-so bullet-proof excuses that won’t stop agents from harassing you. Both of these have failed successfully.

I’ll start again shall I , tsk .
I was reading an article in the paper abit ago about how ruthless they are , and it was saying how some estate agents read the obitchuaries , so they can contact the son or daughter asking if they plan to sell there parents house ?!
Its terrible .
I dont really know if I dislike estate agents , I think they are more amusing than anything , how they think they are so convincing.
When I bought my house , they wouldnt take the ‘For Sale’ sign down , even though id asked them so many times .
So I rang up , pretending to be a cash buyer and that i was really interested in the house etc and they told me that I could view the house THAT day . So I then told them who it actually was , and if they didnt take the sign down that day , id be pulling out .
haha they didnt even ring me after that.
But the sign got taken down . :D

I wasnt being gazumped !
tsk
w**kers

haha wow! I’m not actually surprised by your story, but that’s incredible.

However, an estate agent’s client is the vendor and not the buyer, so in their defense they could have said they’re looking out for their clients best interest, even if that wasn’t the case. But what they did was bad practise, definately.

There are some decent estate agents out there, for sure. But the majority of them are just ruthless snakes!
