Most Expensive House In The WorldCategory: Architecture/Design |
UPDATE
07/06/2007: A new house that is costing an estimate of $1 billion (£505 million) is currently under construction, to read more go to this article, The $1 Billion House.
I was curious to find out what is currently the most expensive house in the world. Turns out, you would only need to buy a house for more than 70million pounds to be the owner of the most expensive house in the world. That’s not too bad, aye? Pocket change as far as I’m concerned. However, i’ve checked through various sources and apparently 2 houses in the UK sold for a rumoured 70million pounds, so I guess there are 2 houses that can be considered the most expensive house in the world.
PROPERTY 1
Here’s the first one, Updown Court. You’ll need a spare 1million pounds a year just to run this damn thing.

It’s located 25 miles outside of London. Among the estate’s neighbours are the Duchess of York, Elton John, and, at nearby Windsor Castle, the Queen. So, what exactly would you get for your money? Well, you know, just the basics…
IS THAT ALL?
Don’t be silly. The master bedroom has its own swimming pool accessed by a private glass lift. The roof has an infinity pool and hot tub encased by a glass barrier that allowed sky and water to meet. The reception hall occupies a footprint larger than most five-bedroom houses. It is dominated by marble columns and a sweeping double staircase modelled on one owned by fashion designer Versace.
So, who owns this little shack?
Apparently the proud owner of Updown Court is multi-billionaire crown prince of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The racehorse owner, who already owns a property in Chertsey in Surrey, is expected to entertain official guests at the mansion.

PROPERTY 2
Again, apparently rumoured to be the most expensive house in the world. It’s located in Kensington Palace Gardens in West London, which has been bought by one of the richest tycoons living in Britain. For some reason, there’s really not that much information available about this property, especially compared to Updown Court. It formerly belonged to Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula One racing boss, who bought the home for £50 million as a surprise gift for his wife. The Kensington Palace gardens houses are dubbed ‘billionaires’ row. Nearby are Kensington Palace and the London home of the Sultan of Brunei. It consists of the former Egyptian embassy and a one-time annex to Russia’s embassy knocked together.
What do you get for your money?
To be honest, I don’t really know. Like I said, information is limited. However, I do know you only get 12 bedrooms. Pffft. For 70 million I want at least 20 bedrooms, so who knows why it cost so damn much? There are literally no pictures of this property available, so you’ll have to settle for this ONE (I’m sorry guys)…

So, who owns this dump?
Steel tycoon Lakshmi N Mittal, that’s who. He is the richest asian man currently living in the UK. He made his fortune through his steel company- LNM Group, one of the world’s biggest steelmaking companies,. He purchased it in 2004, so again, like Updown Court, there’s no telling how much it is worth now.

NOTE: If anyone knows any further, relevant information about either of these properties, please let me know. I’ll add it to the content. Thanks

That shit is outlandish bullshit! I can’t believe this crap! 70 million for a fucking house?! I’ll accept 20 bucks for a handle of morgan… but I’ll refuse to pay that much for a place to sleep.. and I am saddened by anyone that would pay that much.
(2008-02-19 03:10:53)
maybe it would help you with your money you wont have to go anywhere so you can save your money cause you have everything in your houz and would you rather have this houz or a motel you know if you had the money you would buy this houz in a heartbeat do u think if you had all that money you would buy a little corner houz no so think before you say summtin because everyone would buy this houz and they know it so HUSH!!!!
(2007-03-09 09:05:50)
I definately agree with you, Todd. What a waste of money. It’s nothing but a stunt to increase their status with in their “community”
I know it sounds cliche and cheesy, but they could give that money to worthy charities.
(2008-05-07 16:47:05)
To be honest with all you guys, i think most of you are only jealous of the rich. I have recently just purchased a £20 million pad in chelsea. Think you lot need to understand what we have gone through to get this amount of money.
(2007-03-12 15:22:51)
a complete and utter waste of money-not to mention what it takes to keep that “thing” heated in the winter and cooled in the summer-how about their elec bill?? That is probably 3 months worth of salary for me. Can you say pretentious??
(2007-03-19 11:54:35)
can you say jealous?
why should rich people just give all their money away? do you give your money away?
(2008-02-22 02:49:57)
I completely agree! Why blame the rich people? I’m sure they do give some of their oney to worthy causes. If you had millions of dollar, why not live luxuiriously?!
(2008-04-06 21:18:56)
I agree 100 percent.
(2007-03-19 13:32:52)
Tg: Yeah, I don’t think anyone is implying that rich people should give all their money away.
(2007-03-20 20:37:39)
Yeah, I agree. But if you would have THAT MUCH money, maybee you would give a part of it away. Stars pay a lot for houses, but they continue to do more and more money. That is why they give that much of it away!! $$$$$$
(2007-12-10 20:28:52)
I can’t believe this there are starving kids and people are worried about billion houses!

WTC THTS EXPENSIVE AS CRAP!!!!!
(2007-06-04 22:23:15)
I would love to have that much money to throw away. If I could I’d eat gold, shit marble, and there would be a line of women for my taking trained only by other woemn in sexual favors and totally untouched by any other man. I would drive a car until it ran out of gas. I would eat only the best fresh caught food from all over the world. I would sin until they dragged me to hell!!! Yeah, baby, live it up you over spoiled lucky bastards!
(2007-06-04 22:26:58)
Amen, Dustin.
I would have a woman for every day for the year. Yeah, that’s right. Not just a woman for every day of the week, but EVERY day of the year.
I would buy 20 Ferraris. Not because I would need 20 Ferraris like I would need 365 women, but just so I could say I own 20 Ferraris.

I have noticed there seems to be a slight debate happening on here about whether Updown Court is a waste of money or not. I have to say, think about like this… if you had enough money to buy this house/mansion, there are two penthouse apartments in side along with many guest houses…why not rent out rooms or even start a hotel/lodge for honeymooners or just people wanting to go on a romantic trip. I think its logical… that way you’re not really wasting your money at all and you’re giving something back. Dont get me wrong…i would live in that house in a second. I’m putting change away already with my boyfriend and we’re going to buy it one day :)… in our dreams. But thats not because i’m greedy, its because i think Updown Court is a piece of the finest art of our time. I LOVE UPDOWN COURT!!!
(2007-06-19 14:05:42)
People are dying in Durfur, but anyway I’ts a nice house. That what money must do,enjoy it,but please give to the poor
(2007-07-11 20:16:57)
It is a nice house but there is too much empty space one thing is that if you fill that space with something the house will be in the billions range
(2007-07-19 02:14:03)
WOW THAT HOUSE IS AMAZING! Could you even imagin LIVING in that house!!! It’s So High in cost because of the people living next door, THE KING and QUEEN! I wish I lived there! but i don’t even know if Bill Gates could afford that! I mean the cost of electricity, amount of WATER to keep those 5 Pools running, and not to mention that water fountain in the front yard….
(2007-07-21 00:41:51)
i live in house number one my father owns it. it really isnt that great. i do not want to sound spoiled but it isnt what you think. yes i have a huge house with everything possible but that doesnt make your life better. buying things cant fix your parents getting divorced, a family member dying, or you and just not being happy. what i am saying that you dont need this . are you kidding me?! i would rather live in a shack or a small house. just be like evryone. i feel like we are showing off how much we can afford . it isnt fair and it isnt right. to most people it is just somewhere to sleep and there right it is you dont need 5 swimming pool or heated and cooled everything or expensive clothes or cars.be happy with what you have.
(2008-04-12 18:25:47)
i hate you ingrid your very spoilt
(2007-07-26 11:23:10)
Eche person in the world get what GOD give him i wish the SHEEK MAKTOOM spread some of his wealth and buy a house for my kids befor i die.
(2007-07-27 06:49:11)
What a waste of money! Travel the world, give money to the starving and animal shelters! Or maybe… JUST MAYBE leave an inheritance for your children!
(2007-07-29 12:29:39)
Try to be that 1% group of people (own 96% of wealth in the world) rather than being the 99% mass group of the people who are fighting daily to try to get the only 4% of wealth.
How do we know that they are not giving money to poor or help? What riches give out may not let you know and the amount of it would be larger than you can image… “Abundant†is a good quality and position, wealth is not evil, just imagine you have $10,000.00 a day to spend, are you going to just give it away? How to help is more important, at same time respect what you have - even wealthy.
Do something about your own life and enable you to go out to help in BIG way not just being bitter, why expecting the riches to help but not you can do just a little in your life to change things including yourself.
(2007-07-31 13:33:28)
I have heard that house prices in London are on the rise and that London was one of the most expensive cities in the world, but i didnt know that it was home to the most expensive house in the wolrd. Should it even be called a house? Maybe a mansion is more suitable. I think the houses to buy in Belgravia are more suitable, only £4,000,000!
(2007-08-03 15:43:43)
Just imagine how much money Sheik Maktom have to bay every year as maintenance and insurance for this mansion , that he only spend few days in it every year.
On the other hand I don’t mind to work for him running the workers their for free. And give a room to live instead of paying me.
(2007-08-04 21:00:02)
I think there should be a rule not to make such expensive houses because they consume so much of power, i mean its further adding to global warming…..i mean Sheikh Maktoum is paying money to accelerate global warming, either this house should be run as a hotel or should just be left as a museum but with much less power being used to run it i mean u don’t really need all the 5 swimming pools and all the lights should not be kept on at all the time……………and that goes the same for Lakshmi N Mittal’s house too……..well it would be a different case if these houses were extremely energy efficient !!!!!!
(2007-08-05 18:10:22)
why the hell would you pay this much for a house? plus why are the two most expensive houses in britain owned by people who are not native to the country! its a bit S**t if you ask me!
(2007-08-06 18:41:47)
well tha is so amazing seeing that there are people out there who are in possession of that BIG money!!! its good that they use the money to support the poor too. keep it up money holders
(2007-08-07 00:59:41)
why are there photos of our house?
(2007-08-11 20:45:43)
I wish this was my house
(2007-08-13 11:24:07)
This comment is for “The GMAN”, well guess that the two largest houses in Britain belong to non native because they have always been rich and are mega wealthy in their native country and now have decided to come and boost the British economy so that people like you can continue to suck the system dry by living on the dole forever. I think that you should say thank you to Sheikh Maktoum. And one more thing alot of people would spend their money foolishly but here are some business savvy people and alot of you guys are hating. Just chill ok and let these people do what they gotta to and as for global warming what about other places that burn light all night too, you know i don’t think that you can blame these people for global warming.
(2007-08-13 11:36:16)
I must say that i’m really glad you took up the time to research all this.. i must admitt if it wasnt for your results i’d probably never know. I was just wondering and thought to google for the most expensive houses. Nothing was found till i opened yo search. good you took up the time and thanx that i’ve gotten to know all this as well.. excellent work!
(2007-08-17 09:02:16)
yeh totally i am a grade 8 student and i just live for property i already have a property that is mine and i live for property and just seeing updown court is just so cool i have emailed the builders of updown court and asked for some more info and i just find it so interesting
(2007-08-21 07:28:36)
You guys are all retarded, we all know that if anyone (except maybe Mother Theresa) had that much money they would blow it all on stupid shit just like that. All of you noble cause hippies are just trying to make yourselves feel better. Anyone that looks at that video had to search for the most expensive house in the world so it means you think its cool. Just admire the fact that there are people out there that have way cooler shit than you and deal with it you bastards. I hope that one day I can own a house that people like you will trash talk because I can masturbate to that shit.
(2007-08-21 07:52:31)
Are you crying, Mark?
(2007-08-21 18:53:15)
Fantastic - thanks for sharing the information. I drive past Updown Court nearly everyday and have always wondered what was inside - now I know.
(2007-08-23 11:05:05)
What a waste of money. There are others on this world that are starving and there are these plonkers that spend Millions in buying property that have 100 bedrooms (for one person). Disgraceful - that money could of fed a whole country in Africa for a year.
(2007-08-25 18:57:11)
I agree with most people 70 million dollars for a home? You could have all that for less… 1. Money is important for stuff other then stuff you own people desperately need it for food, 2. If you wanna go to the movies and the bowling alley thats only like $30.00 a visit or so and plus you get to socialize, 3. People shouldn’t buy big houses for a reason that is obvious… You could fill it up it would be cool but not to have a big house with like room for 20 people that is too big screw that house tear it down or sell pieces for money I would brake in try to steal some marble and then sell it on ebay for $1,000,000 and get food for the poor and stuff so many things you could do with $70 million not even Bill gates could aford it he could barely aford it and he is the richest man on EARTH!!!!!!
(2007-08-27 18:54:54)
it realy suprise me i red how people are giving thire best ideas how wealth men should spend thire hard earn money.let me tell you guys to be generous has nothing to do with how much someone has but is about how much you are willing to give out from the little you have,i believe these men are helping people in thire own defferen ways which has not bein poblished i think he purchased the mansion to satisfied his heart disare that is good for him, those people who dont like it , you better change your mind and start liking it now because im going to buy my own mansion very soon. may God direct him in the area of his finance and his life to the glory of God in jesus name amen.
(2007-08-27 20:58:45)
money’s just paper.
you only live once.
he’s probably not gonna run out of money and will probably leave some for the youngins. screw charities.
jeez some of you are patsies…
HAIL SATAN !!!
(2007-08-27 23:39:28)
thats an awful lot for a flippinm house. yeah… k bi
(2007-08-28 01:23:13)
Hey all you haters out there why are you hating these rich people, hate the game not the players.
(2007-09-04 14:44:11)
Houses like this are really just status symbols. it is there money and they can do what ever they want with there money, but these are just not houses that would be comfortable to live in. I imagine it would feel like a hotel.
(2007-09-04 14:48:31)
I couldn’t agree with you more, Lucynda!
I fail to believe that a building so big could be comfortable to live in. A house is meant to be a personal possession. I doubt the owners have stepped foot in every room more than once (if that)- how can that be personal?
Oh well, it is their money, as you said.
(2007-09-05 20:21:38)
MTV does a show called “THe Fabulous Life of…”. One of the episodes was about fancy houses - had interior photos of that 2nd house in London.
(2007-09-12 18:29:50)
That is so cool i want that house!
(2007-09-12 21:51:44)
guys cant you see this is marvelous,it is god who gives and he gives what is enough for everyone.so accept that these guys really deserves what they have because they work hard.anyway these guys should remember to give some to our less privileged members in this world (dont be selfish okay)
(2007-09-13 18:05:43)
That london gaff is right next to Buckingham palace, so thats why it is expensive.
Imagine being the neighbour to the Queen!
(2007-09-21 20:23:44)
you lot are all jelaous!…how do you know he isn’t giving millions of pounds to charity- as if you follow his everday financial ingoings and outgoings. So what if he has a massive house- God will judge him on that- you lot keep your traps shut.
(2007-09-27 22:47:21)
read most of the comments. and i DISAGREE that they are wasting their money. its an INVESTMENT actually for these guys. if they bought it for 70$ it will sell for 140$ in 10 years. after all they didn’t make all this money if they were stupid.
(2007-09-28 07:06:13)
Hey Kingshah,
You’re right, it is an investment. And in 10 years time the property value would have increased significantly.
However, these 2 guys are within the bracket of “the richest people in the world”
Earning £70m for them, in a duration of 10years is neither here nor there.
(2007-10-03 15:17:20)
In fact the latter property was bought in the company name. Tax break around this - so it is considered a business investment and not a personal investment.
(2007-10-13 23:29:56)
Oh, my, god! Thank you sooo much for posting this! I have a friend who I think is a pathological liar and she said that her mom owns this place!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! Unless she’s realted to Prince Mohaamd whatever she can’t possible own it. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You have no idea how much this means to me!
(2007-10-14 01:33:02)
Your friend sounds like a psycho. Is she single and attractive?
(2007-10-17 02:40:33)
why does ANYONE need this much house?
(2008-02-26 04:03:01)
i totally agree with u mate
(2007-10-20 20:20:40)
i say if you have it flaunt it and flaunt it further, harder, for longer if you work dame hard for it. in the respect of mittal why shouldn’t he have it. besides, the do give to charity but whos to say they should give all so they cant leave a certain life style hey chose. neither are piratical but beautiful assets to own. if i had i would!!!
(2007-10-21 01:03:26)
Nahhh! its okay! way toooo big! I still LOVE the little beautiful house with a picket fence around it and lots of flowers. And my kids just playing in front the yard.I’m relaxing on the front porch sitting on my bench swing, drinking my ice cold tea!A house thats so comfortable to live in. My HOME SWEET HOME.
(2007-10-28 17:02:10)
why shud the rich people give their money away, they have worked hard for it(apart from that prince person who was probably born into a wealthy family but he will have worked aswell) you cant call a beautiful house a “thing” if you had 100 million pounds or wotever you would buy a pricey house as well so don’t go saying they shud give it all to charity, maybes a few million but not to charity, just to people hu need it, most ov the money u giv to charity pays peoples wages and gives the “man” (owners) his money only a fraction is actually used to help ill people so don’t give money to charitys!!! BUY A BIG HOUSE!!!!!
(2007-11-14 01:34:28)
70m pounds is around 140m us dollars
(2007-11-16 01:51:46)
i would get lost in the first house!!
(2007-11-27 16:34:30)
I am sir Alen sugars son and i think thats a waste of money.
my dad would never by that,,,,,
(2007-11-27 16:37:05)
Amen lisa god is the only one who can alow people to enter into heaven they are not going to take bribes……..
(2007-11-30 23:42:28)
of course this is one of the dream house for many but I would like to live in a home and not a house. In reality we need a small piece of land in the end then what is the need to have such a big house.
(2007-12-04 17:52:53)
i want to poop on the lawn
(2007-12-10 21:14:18)
whew! its a huge amount to live in a house like that.but it looks great and the owners already proud to be with those most expensive house in the world:D
(2007-12-14 18:53:50)
i think rich people should give money away but they wont because they are spafel basteds so you can say they should not but i think a lot of people will agree with me
(2007-12-21 00:50:06)
bill gates is a multi billion with something around 40 billion dollars im sure if he saved he could afford this house haha, and michael sugar you spelt your dads name wrong
(2008-01-06 18:08:03)
There was a show about the first house on MTV…
supposidly it costs 12 million a year just to run!
crazy but we would alll still love to own it!!
grrr… the billionares
(2008-01-11 10:56:41)
i av read the debate bout updown court.most of the people argued that the owner should giv away the money to poor instead of of wasting money on buying this mension.
but guys the owner of this house has give away 10 Billion USD for education of poor people. is that not enough ???? suppose urself in his place. u always dream to buy such kind of property … would you ever give away this house . he diserve this coz he work and earn.
(2008-01-12 17:31:44)
This is a truly gorgeous house to look at. Not too sure if I would want to live there though, as it doesn’t look very homely inside. A home should be filled with love and laughter amongst other things, not just beautiful items! I definately would pitch a tent and live in that gorgeous garden if given the chance!
(2008-01-16 20:25:44)
i would not know where to start and then if i lived in that house i would get lost and shouting for help
(2008-01-23 18:50:13)
10 belgrave square currently being refurbed. rumours supposed to be finished in may, that has been valued at £90 million. the mail on sunday did a report on it.
(2008-01-23 18:54:06)
Thanks for that Mike. I’ll keep a look out for it.
(2008-01-26 01:16:56)
truly amazed by the houses. and still stunned by how many rooms there is. well as long as you have the money, why not spend it. life is short, and people may do as they please in spending their money.
(2008-02-04 16:34:26)
And i thought my home was overbuilt…..
120 rooms? My house has 42 and its one of the houses with more rooms in my country!
But, 1 billion a HOUSE? dude…
I mean, 10 millions are ok, but 1 BILLION??!!!
(2008-02-06 04:41:55)
Marry me Prince Rashid!Arf!
(2008-02-11 12:52:49)

Don’t sweat it guys…..the most expensive house is being built at the moment in Dubai I think and it will be 27-floor tower for the richest man in Dubai for him, his wife, mother and 3 kids. It will cost him only 1 BILLION dollars!!! read about it! I think they should phone each other in order to have lunch together, don’t you think?
I mean you can surely be lost in that kinda house. He and his family are now living in a 14-floor house. Greetings from Bulgaria to ya all! Take care and if someone of you someday earns that kind of money, please give away a lot for charity!

people should realized that rich people gives back to the community by creating jobs. that is why they’re rich because they have multibillion dollars company. check out bill gates, do you know how much people he employ? so let the rich enjoy their money they deserve it by contributing to the masses. if everybthing is equal with same pay regardless of your skill, that sounds like communism…think about it

Isn’t anyone surprised how aesthetically unimpressive Updown Court looks like? It’s full of expensive gadgets all right, but with that kind of money, couldn’t you afford to decorate the place a bit more lavishly? Huge rooms, lots of huge rooms, lots of pools and electronic toys, but the overall look of the building is unbelievably bland. Where are the stucco ornaments, statues and other architectural details? It looks like some kind of luxury hotel for stupid rich people who are into golf.

Colleen…last month’s electric bill was over 61000 pounds (that’s about 125000 dollars). You are probably the envy of many readers here if you make that in 3 months.
That’s just the electricity invoice—water, security, and many other utility and maintenance contracts make this a very costly home.

What you sow shall you reap…. or so… If you have the money… enjoy it… you only have one life…. live it to the max…. buying 200 mil diamonds, 1 billion house, 1 trip to the moon for 100 mil, etc… etc. If you have the money why not to waste it in something that makes you happy… Ciao
